Jakob Sedmak began playing piano at the age of six at the Glasbena šola Ilirska Bistrica, where
he studied classical music from 2008 to 2017. As a soloist, he took part in the Competition of
Young Musicians of Primorska (2012) and in the national competition TEMSIG (2014) in piano duo,
winning a silver award on both occasions.
In 2017, he was accepted to the Conservatory for Music and Ballet Ljubljana, where he studied
jazz piano until 2021. During this time, he achieved a gold award and second prize at the
International Music Competition Giovani Musicisti in Treviso, Italy (2018) with a jazz trio, and in
2020 he earned a gold award and second prize at the National Competition of Young Musicians of
Slovenia as a soloist. He also took part in numerous masterclasses and workshops, including
Jazzinty and Jazz Klinika Velenje, and became a member of Big Band Nova, performing with
renowned musicians.
Jakob later passed the auditions to join Codarts in Rotterdam, where he performed regularly with
projects spanning jazz, pop, classical, rock, Latin, and R&B. Among them were the VSR Quintet,
Jakob Lampert Quintet, Sia y su ritmo caliente, George Hytiroglou Sextet, Matjaž Kafol Quintet,
Jernej Bregar Quartet, Ražnijazz, L&B Quintet, Polis East, Irene Caumel Quartet, GC Morbeck
Quintet, and ILUMRA. He also recorded music for a film with Nilo van Kralingen, participated in a
live video game soundtrack project, and collaborated with many other musicians and artists as
both an arranger and composer.
As a bandleader, Jakob formed and led a piano trio and quartet, presenting his original
compositions and arrangements and organizing a tour in Slovenia. He later became a semifinalist
at the Erasmus Jazz Prize and a finalist with the George Hytiroglou Sextet. His creative work also
extends into production and digital media—he created and presented an interactive album that
showcased his skills in DAWs, recording, producing, and composing.
In 2025, Jakob graduated from Codarts with the highest distinction (10) – Cum Laude.
